A few weeks ago bought a few oval canvases.  I have had such fun painting on them!
Here are a few of the paintings that I have completed so far.

Her name is Mary Jane.

This painting features text that is actually a goal for me this year.  I am really focusing on simplifiying in my private life and in the way I approach my art.

I think I may embellish them a bit more, maybe add a pretty ribbon for hanging. I have a few of these canvases left so, I'll be posting more paintings soon.

Have a fabulous day!

Ever have those days when you just don't have enough time to create?  I know I do.   Last year I decided that I was going to find time, even if it was just five minutes a day to practice my art.  I started a sketchbook of faces.  I set a timer, and ready, set, sketch!  I found this to be very relaxing and I also learned a lot about my process and how I create.  My faces always start out the same but, they eventually take on a life of their own. In just five minutes some interesting characters come to life on the pages of my sketchbook.

Here are a few of my recent five minute faces.

I enjoy creating these faces so much that I now use this method of sketching to warm up before painting or, to wind down on the sofa in the evening after a day of creating in my studio.  My goal is not to sketch a perfect face.  Although I am limited to five minutes, I don't feel any pressure.  I just relax and enjoy the creative process.  Do you have a creative warm up or wind down routine?

Have a great day!

Time for Time
mixed media on paper

I hope that you all had a great holiday.   Well, here we are, it's 2016!  I don't know about you but, I'm pretty excited about the year to come.  Last year was a year of change for me, especially in regards to my art.  Since 2013 I had mostly been working with watercolors.  Last year however, I discovered the beautiful world of mixed media art and I must say, I'm hooked!  Now, I work almost exclusively with mixed media.  The style and feel of my work has changed as well.  Mixed media allows for a more spontaneous approach to painting.  I don't have a plan when I sit down to start a project.  I grab whatever I feel I need and just flow along with the process. My subject matter has less to do with fashion these days as well. The figures that I extract from the backgrounds have a more whimsical feel to me.  I love how unbalanced they are, not perfect, yet perfect.  What I love most of all is that my paintings tell a story.   I can never predict what will show up on my canvas, it's always a pleasant surprise.

I have a lot planned for 2016.  Of course, I will continue working with mixed media.  I would also like to use my sewing machine a bit more for smaller projects such as art pillows and dolls. I may even try filming videos.  We'll see how that goes.  My main goal however, is to just be ME.  I'm going to paint what I want.  I can't be so concerned about what people think of my work , if like my work or better yet, if they will buy it.  My focus this year is on growing and learning. What are your goals for this year?  Please share them in the comment section, I'd love to hear about them.

I wish you all a wonderful, happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!  Let's make it a great one!
