Hello everyone! I mentioned in my last post that I was preparing for my first art exhibition.  The exhibition opening was on last Saturday and it was great! I even sold a painting, how cool is that!

The exhibition is at the Art Lounge.  The gallery is not far from my home, as a matter of fact, I walked to the opening.  You probably didn't know but, here are many Art Lounges around the world.    It all started in New York City.  The concept is that artist rent wall space at a reasonable price to display their work.  As a new or even experienced artist, it is very difficult to get your work shown in a gallery.  Many established galleries only want to show artist who they are familiar with.  The Art Lounge concept is a great way to get your work out there and, it is also a great way to connect with other artist.

The opening was well attended by some very nice people who love art.  The mayor showed up and, I was even photographed by the press.  My work will be on display at the gallery along with the works of seven other artist until June 10th. Since you guys won't be able to attend in person, here are a few photos so that you can share in the experience.

My dolls on display in the window.

I met some wonderful people. The gentleman and his wife pictured below bought my painting.

It just dawned on me that I hadn't shared my latest work with you guys.  These paintings were completed over the last three weeks.  I've been busy working on other projects and preparing for my first exhibition!  I'm super excited about that!  The exhibition will be at the Art Lounge  in K√∂nigswinter, Germany.  The gallery is conveniently located in my neighborhood.  The Art Lounge opened their doors four years ago and is well known for showcasing art of all genres.  It is a venue where artist both hobby and professional show their work.  The exhibition will run from May 6-June 10th.  I'll be sure to blog about my experience when the exhibition closes.

In the meantime, here are my newest paintings.  I won't be showing these paintings.  I've decided put them on hold for another project that I have planned.

Have a great day!

I don't have much to say in this post aside from the fact that this book is AMAZING!

If you are a creator or maker, I highly recommend that you read this book.  Elizabeth Gilbert, best known for the best selling novel and movie "Eat, Pray, Love" is a woman full of wisdom.  In "Big Magic" she shares her thoughts on creativity.  Here ideas are eye-opening and though provoking.  It has totally changed the way I think about my creative process and how I approach it.  If you're looking for a great read, check it out. If you already have read the book, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Behind the Scenes - The Making of a Paper Clay Art Doll

Happy Monday everyone!  Remember that video I kept talking about making?  You know, the one where I take you behind the scenes and show you how I create my art dolls?  Well, it's finally finished and ready for viewing!  It took a long time to make because, I takes awhile to make a doll.  Sometimes, I need two weeks just to finish one.  Add in the fact that I am usually working on three dolls at once then, the process becomes even longer.

I finished doll number two last week.  Here is my mermaid art doll in an assemblage piece that I have entitled "Free".

The idea for this piece had been floating around in my head for quite some time.  I kept thinking about how people try to put things in a box or, a cage that simply don't belong there.  Whether it be a human or an animal, we all have the right to be free and to live our lives as the Creator intended.

Enjoy the video and if you should have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave them in the comment section.

Wishing you a fabulous, creative week,

The March Of Kindred Spirits -Paper Clay Art Doll Assemblage

Happy Friday everyone!  I'm so excited to share with you all my new art doll!  I love everything about this piece!  Her pose, her hair and her little friends!

I found the small wooden animals at a thrift store a couple of months ago.  I wasn't sure at the time how I would use them but, I knew that I would use them someday in an assemblage piece with a doll.

It became clear after I posed my doll on her base that the animals were the perfect fit for this piece.  Everything seemed to just fall in line, pardon the pun, lol!

It was very difficult to get a good overview of this piece with just photos.  I decided it would be best to put together a short video to showcase it.    I hope you enjoy watching the video just as much as I enjoyed creating this piece.

Have a happy weekend!

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I thought is my be interesting to share with you all how I work on a larger canvas.  I filmed a process video for my newest painting entitled "Tallulah Blue".

I just love the expression on her face and her lovely blue hat!

My process for painting on a larger canvas is basically the same as when I am painting an art journal page. However, painting big can be quite the challenge.  I often have difficulty getting the paints to blend for my background.  I think I have remedied that by using more that one brush to blend.

I hope you enjoy the video.  Be sure to visit my Youtube channel for more!

This is a another new painting that I finished last week.  I'm starting to prepare for an exhibition that I have coming up in May.  Stay tuned for more details about that.

 Have a great week!

Happy Saturday everyone!  As promised, I wanted to share the second mixed media painting that I completed a couple of weeks ago.  This painting is entitled "The Good Shepherd".

We recently got rid of an old cupboard where I stored my clothes. I decided to keep the shelves and reuse them for painting. These wood panels are very heavy. It was not possible to paint directly on them as they are covered with a plastic coating.  I covered the panel first with paper to prepare the panel for painting.  The paper adds some great texture which later comes through in the painting.

As with my Moon Goddess painting, I added some bead and fabric elements.  The moon is embellished with pearls and I used a few colored beads to accent his staff.  I added pearls to his cuffs and collar as well.

It's not often that I paint a male figure but, I'm really happy to get practice when they appear on my canvas.  I played around with different color combinations for his skin tone.  I also applied the paint in sections which is a new technique for me.  Sometimes, I find myself holding back when it comes to trying new things, however, I am determined to spread my wings and give myself permission to play.  It is the only way to grow.

I'm off to work on more painting projects and new art dolls. Stay tuned!  What do you have planned for the weekend?

Have a good one!

Art Dolls

I recently put together a short video to showcase my latest art dolls.  I'm not sure if you guys where aware of the fact that I even made them but, I do.  I made my first doll last year and since then, my collection has grown to a total of nine dolls.  I'm working on three new dolls as we speak.

Over the next few weeks, I will post photos of all of the dolls that I have made thus far.  I will also give you a behind the scenes look at how my dolls are made.  Until then, here is a short video showcasing the newest art dolls in my collection.  I hope you enjoy and be sure to stay tuned for more post on my dolls.

Have a great day,

Last week I started two paintings.  This is one of them, "The Moon Goddess".

This painting is done on a piece of recycled wood.  I'm really interested in the idea of recycling and repurposing items.  It's really fun to give something old a new life.  Besides, I think we consume too much nowadays.  There are so many useful items that  end up in our trash cans that can be turned into fabulous pieces of art.

I decided to try experimenting by adding a few different elements to the painting.  I've used a pair of old earrings for her hair ornaments.  And the moons surrounding her were accents on an old necklace.

Sometimes I look at the moon and imagine it to be a big pearl in the sky.  I wanted to convey that feeling in the painting so, I used a few pearls to accent the one she is holding in her hand.  She also has a pearl necklace. I sprinkled some glitter in her hair and in the grass so give the painting a glowing effect.  And of course,  I had to add my signature stars in the sky.

I'll share the second painting that I completed very soon.  Until then, I wish you a wonderful day!  Oh, and before you go to bed tonight, be sure to say goodnight to the Moon Goddess.

Alles gute,

Here's my latest Youtube process video for this art journal spread entitled " Keepers Of The Garden".
